(12-16-17) This year’s boys basketball team will be the last team to play on the ‘Dawg Pound’ floor at Defiance and the first to play on the new floor in 2018 at the new $60 million dollar Middle and High School complex.

Defiance Boys and Girls Basketball teams played their last game on today in the ‘Dawg Pound’, the girls beat Bryan 49-38 in the afternoon and the boys picked up a 47-37 win over Bryan in the nightcap. A happy ending to the end of an era at Defiance.

The ‘Dawg Pound’ was used for the first time back in 1970 (47 years ago) when the Bulldogs played the first boys basketball game against Wauseon.
Defiance Athletic Director Jerry Buti told the Crescent-News:

On January 8th (2018) the Bulldogs boys team will play a WBL game against the Kenton Wildcats in their first game ever in their new gym.

Defiance will now have the newest athletic facility in the Western Buckeye League, St. Marys and Van Wert also have built new schools recently.

The oldest basketball gym in the WBL remains in Celina with the Fieldhouse, built back in the late 1930’s.
