(12-25-17) This week’s SSN National Public HS Girls Basketball Rankings sees a new #1 and four new schools join the Top 10.

#1 Riverdale saw its long winning streak come to an end when they lost to Archbishop Mitty (Calif) in Phoenix at the Nike Tournament of Champions Tournament. With the loss Riverdale drops to #6. The new #1 is Hopkins, who continues to impress in Minnesota. It’s their first time ever in the top spot.

Also moving up in the rankings, Mercer County moves from #6 to #2, Hoover, after winning the Big Orange Classic is now 3rd, Appleton North moves up four spots to #4 and Edwardsville is now #5.

Four new schools enter the Top 10, Winter Haven (Fla) (9-0, Los Cruces (New Mexico) (11-0), Eagle, (Idaho) (13-0) and Page (Sand Springs, Okla.) (8-0). They replace four schools, three of them suffered multiple losses.

#2 Northwest Guilford (NC) (9-2) lost to St. Francis (Ga) 69-66 and Brentwood Academy 65-55 at the CresCom Holiday Classic, #3 North Little Rock (Ark.) (8-2)  lost to  Mesquite 61-57 and Rock Creek Christian 69-63 at the Nike TOC and #5 Mesquite (Ariz.) (12-3) lost 3 games at the TOC, St. Mary’s (Ca) 80-66, Sacred Heart (Ky) 78-66 and Centennial (Nev) 58-53. It was a tough week for those three.
