(4-8-20) In many states across the USA cheerleading is a competitive sports, this leads to many cheerleaders getting college scholarships at many different universities. The Ohio High Athletic Association presently does not sanction competitive cheerleading as a varsity sport.
There has been non-sanctioned competitions held over the past years in Ohio, this shows the interest is moving in the direction of making it a sanctioned sport in the future. The Ohio High School Cheerleading Coaches Association (OHSCCA) is a non-profit organization committed to the development and improvement of cheerleading in the state of Ohio, they are making a lot of good things happen,
When you consider that almost every school in Ohio has a cheerleading squad…it makes sense.
