
(5-29-23) Quincy (Illinois) Notre Dame’s baseball team had to decide yesterday if they would continue their season today in the 2A Illinois High School Association Super-Sectional vs. Bloomington Central Catholic. The decision was to continue the season for their teammate Tucker Tollerton (18) who was killed in a single-car crash in Hannibal, Missouri on Saturday night.
The fatal crash happened just hours after the Raiders had won the Sectional title over Gillespie 5-0. In what turned out to be Tollerton’s final game he would play a key part in the win when he gave his team some insurance runs in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-RBI single to score Michael Stupavsky and Collin Kurk, giving QND a 4-0 lead. Tollerton went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Tollerton, who played CF-RF, was in the midst of a career Senior season…hitting .407, four triples, 11 doubles and five home runs and 48 RBIs, walked 23 times, scored 50 runs and 22 stolen bases. From the mound he threw 9 ⅓ innings of relief with one victory and one save. He struck out four and had a 2.25 ERA.
Tollerton, who lived in Hannibal (Mo) commuted to Quincy (Ill) to attend school at Notre Dame.
The Raiders would pick-up the Super-Sectional Championship win today over Bloomington Central Catholic 13-1 in 5 innings. They will play in the 2A State semifinals on Friday at Dozier Field in Peoria at 5pm.

The accident report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol…at approximately 8:30 pm, Tucker Tollerton (18) of Hannibal was headed west on Route M about three miles southwest of Hannibal, when he drove off the right side of the road and then over-corrected and causing the SUV to travel off the other side of the roadway and overturned several times. Tollerton was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger, Jace Utterback (18) of New London was taken to an area hospital for treatment. According to the report, Tollerton was NOT wearing a safety device, however, Utterback was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.
