(7-2-23) The past several weeks and months we have seen numerous changes in the make-up of area athletic leagues…it is constant. It is interesting to see how some of these leagues started and who were charter members.

Here is a look at area conferences.

Midwest Athletic Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 1973—Ansonia, Bradford, Coldwater, Marion Local, Minster, New Bremen, Parkway and St. Henry.

Western Buckeye League

athletic competition started in in the fall of 1940–-Bellefontaine, Bluffton, Celina, St. Marys, Van Wert and Wapakoneta.

Northwest Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 1947—Allen East, Columbus Grove, Delphos Jefferson, Elida, Spencerville, Lafayette-Jackson, Shawnee (football only), Forest (football only) and Pandora-Gilboa (football only)

Northwest Central Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 2001— Temple Christian, Waynesfield-Goshen, Ridgemont, Marion Catholic and Riverside

Green Meadows Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 2001— Ayersville, Fairview, Hicksville, Paulding and  Jewell (now Tinora)

INDIANA

Allen County Athletic Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 1956—Arcola, Ft. Wayne Elmhurst, Harlan, Hoagland, Huntertown, Lafayette Central, Leo, Monroeville and Woodburn

Northeast 8 Conference

athletic competition started in in the fall of 2015—Bellmont,Columbia City, DeKalb, East Noble, Huntington North, Leo,New Haven and Norwell
