(9-7-23) This year we continue to see incidents of violence that take place during high school football games…in Ohio and around the US.

A pellet gun was brought into a Fairmont (Ohio) High School football game on August 25th. The incident prompted Kettering City School District officials to introduce additional security procedures.

Highlighting the changes include:

  • All students are required to remain in the bleachers at all times unless visiting the restroom or the concession stands
  • To enter Roush Stadium after halftime you must have a ticket
  • On the home side, after halftime, you will enter the facility through Gate 2 only, which will have gate personnel, an administration, and a Kettering police officer present
  • On the visiting side, you may enter the facility through Gates 1 and 4, which will also be monitored by game personnel and an administration
  • At the end of the game, all gates will be available for spectators to leave

Northmont will visit Fairmont tomorrow night.

Last weekend incidents in Louisiana and Maryland took place.

Baltimore City police confirmed that a 12-year-old was shot near (Baltimore) Dunbar High School’s football stadium Friday night during a game. Police said the juvenile suffered non-life-threatening injures and is currently in stable condition.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott

“This was not inside the Dunbar football game, it was not associated with folks inside this game. It’s unfortunate that students from both Dunbar and Loyola and their families and everyone here had to go through this, and that this young man was shot because someone decided to shoot at a group of people.”
