(9-20-23) Archbold has announced that Jeff Brunswick will be the new varsity head baseball coach. Brunswick, who has been on the Archbold coaching staff since 1999, has been teaching and has been the varsity baseball assistant coach.

September 18 – School Board Meeting

Brunswick steps into one of the most solid programs in Northwest Ohio and replaces long-time head coach Dick Selgo.

Brunswick, who like his brothers was a star at Coldwater, also played D I baseball at Wright State.

His dad, Lou, a Hall of Fame coach at Coldwater, who passed away recently, passed his passion for baseball on to his sons. His brother Mark has been a successful head coach during his career at Bellefontaine and Marysville and his brother Tom has been Coldwater’s ACME coach, a teacher and assistant coach at Celina and was also the head coach for the summer college Grand Lake Mariners.

After 14 seasons as head baseball coach at Archbold and 27 total years working with the Blue Streaks program, Dick Selgo announced his retirement in June.

Selgo (70) posted a 268-116 overall record at Archbold, making him the winningest coach in program history. He was 35-18 in two previous seasons as head baseball coach at Eastwood (1980-81), giving a career mark of 303-134.

While at Archbold he won three Northwest Ohio Athletic League titles, five district championships, three regional runner-up finishes, and one trip to the Division III state final four in 2021, when the Blue Streaks were state runners-up.

19 of his Archbold players went on to play college baseball, including — Kade Kern, a center fielder at Ohio State University, and Jeron Williams, a shortstop at the University of Toledo.
