(9-29-23) Last night two powerhouse volleyball teams in Ft. Wayne met up in volleyball for the 2nd time this season. Carroll and Homestead…with the Chargers win the two teams have split their season series in 2023.

What still puzzles many is why the two schools are still independents and not members of the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) in volleyball? After all both schools compete in football and boys and girls basketball in the SAC…but not any other sport.

This season the two schools, according to MaxPreps, play a majority of the SAC members…

Homestead vs. SAC members 5-2 (does not include Carroll)

Won
Bishop Luers
Wayne
Snider
South Side
Northrop

Lost
Concordia
Dwenger

Carroll vs. SAC members 5-0 (does not include Homestead)

Won
Snider
Bishop Luers
Northrop
Bishop Dwenger
Concordia

Lost

The two schools are 10-2 combined against SAC opponents…that has to be the only reason. Winning is something that has caused the SAC to not want them as ‘full members‘ in the conference, there is absolutely no other reason to justify not letting them in.

The student-athletes from both schools are the BIG losers…no chance to win a conference title or being named to an all-conference team. Being an independent is not the way any school wants to go.

Did you know…

Homestead and Carroll are not the only schools in Indiana that face discrimination by winning to much…in the Indianapolis area Carmel and Center Grove have been kicked out of their conference and blacklisted from another.

Although the details were never released after the minutes from the IHSAA Executive Committee Meeting on August 22nd meeting were released –

  • Commissioner Paul Neidig will be meeting with Carmel and Center Grove
administrators following today’s Executive Committee meeting.

It appears the IHSAA has take an interest in the two schools conference situation.
