(11-30-23) It will be no surprise if tonight’s D II State Final game between Massillon Washington (15-0) and Akron Archbishop Hoban provides the OHSAA a ‘boat load‘ of money from ticket sales.

Both schools are just a short drive from Canton…to Akron and Massillon. No travel, no staying in a hotel, no missing school, no long bus ride and very little expenses to pay. For both teams it will have a home game feel.

Between the two schools they played teams from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, Indiana, Delaware and Washington DC.

Past Finals featuring Canton area teams…

In 2018 the two teams played for the D II title in Canton and the attendance for that game was 16,123, the largest in the last 8 years. The last time over 10,000 were in attendance (11,286) for a game was 2019 when Massilon played Cincinnati LaSalle in the D II Final.

The bad news for both schools…they get $0 from the OHSAA for tickets sold, it all goes to the OHSAA. The OHSAA, who just this week announced they would be remaining in Canton for the State Football finals in next several years, has never shared the financial terms of the agreement, etc. with Canton officials.
