(1-30-24) — Blake Reed and Cayden Reed are no longer a part of the Mason County (Ky) boys basketball team. The two were informed of the decision by the Mason County coaching staff this past Sunday. The Reeds transferred to Mason County after four seasons at Bracken County…their dad Adam had been the head coach and resigned at the end of last season. Blake Reed and Cayden Reed were ruled ruled eligible in late October by the KHSAA following their appeal after they had initially had been ruled ineligible. The two enrolled at Mason County on June 5th and played with the Royals’ summer basketball games.
From 10thRegion.com –
Blake Reed will finish his high school career with 3,746 points. Blake led the team in scoring, averaging 18.9 points with 3.6 rebounds in 14 games played. In 18 games, Cayden Reed was tied as their second-leading scorer with 13.6 points per game and second in rebounds with 5.4 per game. He also led the team in assists and steals.
So what has happened???? Was it the current 13-7 record?
Below are social media postings from the Reed boys’ parents on the current situation.

NOTE: We wrote Mason County School officials and the Reeds for a statement on the situation…no reply as of this posting
Social media and message boards have been very outspoken when commenting on the situation. Opinions on why the two brothers were dismissed have been many…but to this point in time Mason County Schools has not yet released a statement from the coach or the school administration on the reasoning for the situation.
So what is next? That is a good question, but it is almost certain there is more to come from both sides. With the season winding down quickly both sides will face what it needs to do next.
The tweet below was less then two weeks ago before the brothers were dismissed from the team.
