(3-16-24) Brandywine (26-3) won its first ever Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) boys state basketball title today beating Old Redford (21-8) 56-48 in the D3 state title game.
Brandywine coach Nate Knapp told the Detroit Free Press…
“Defense wins you big games, and you’ve got to be able to defend, and I just felt that our defense was really solid tonight. This is probably one of the better jobs we’ve done at stopping penetration, too, because they are a very, very quick and athletic team. I thought they could attack the basket very well and our kids did a good job of stopping penetration. We started doing a lot better job of boxing out and getting rebounds. The way the game went, we just came out in the third quarter and imposed our will.”
Jaremiah Palmer led the way for Brandywine scoring 18 points, Twin-brother, Jamier, added 8 points and Ja’Torian Smith added 7 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaylin Muldrow had 14 points and Ja’Quan Stennis had 10 points for Old Redford.
