(4-3-24) Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana have all completed their 2024 boys state basketball tournaments.
All three states handle the State Finals with different formats.
Kentucky brings in 16 region winners to play in a single-game elimination tournament over four days with the state semifinal games and championship game all being played on the same day.
Kentucky – 1 Class (Sweet 16) at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky
- Championship game drew 13,568 fans
- four-day attendance total of 99,915
Indiana decides four class championships on one day…with two sessions. Indiana plays state semifinals at eight (4 in North and 4 in South) separate sites the week before with semifinal games in the late morning and early afternoon and the championship game at night.
Indiana – 4 Classes at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana
- 8,772 for the first session (1A and 2A championship games)
- 11,615 for the second session (3A and 4A championship games)
total of 20,387
2024 was the last time for the four division system in Ohio, next year the Buckeye state will add three more divisions for a total of seven. Most likely a state final format change for 2025….the OHSAA has not yet announced what that will be.
Since there has been four divisions the State Finals were held on three days….first two days featured 8 semifinal games and the third day all 4 state titles would be decided.
Ohio – 4 Classes (Semifinal & Championship Games) at UD Arena, Dayton, Ohio

Interesting to compare how three different states with various formats and the resulting attendance numbers.
