(7-12-24) Over the years the IHSA has considered district play for football, and even passed it one time and then rescinded it, several items point to why it might be a good time to actually move forward with a plan.
The IHSA in February announced the plan formation of an Ad Hoc committee to discuss the direction for the future. No other details have been released since that time.
The IHSA posted this week complete football schedules for the 2024 season.

This year according to the IHSA web site there will be 12 total schools playing as independents, six are private schools and one charter school.
This year Illinois schools will play games against schools from Florida, Iowa, Indiana (8 games), Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri (30 games), New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin (12 games).
When you consider how playoff teams are selected in the state, to qualify you need five wins to be qualify for a spot you need six wins to be guaranteed. The impact of playing a school from outside the state could be a factor either way.
