(8-15-24) Rockford Christian confirmed to WIFR-TV Thursday evening that it had canceled its 2024 varsity football season.

Rockford Christian Athletic Director Isaiah Johnson told 13 WREX that the current players on the roster were told of the cancellation this afternoon due to the team not having enough players to field a team In the future the Royal Lions may consider moving to 8-man football.

Dropping football might jeopardize Rockford Christian’s membership in the BNC.

According to the IHSA web site two BNC schools have already found new opponents.

Williamsville High School Athletics on Thursday said:

Last season the Royal Lions, members of the Big Northern Conference, went 0-9. On September 13th Byron will travel to Williamsville in rematch of the 2019 State Championship in which the Bullets won. Oregon will host Athens on October 25th, which is the final game of the regular season.

Rockford Christian’s remaining schedule is still listed on the IHSA below. Those the remaining schools according to the site are most likely looking for a game to replace the Royal Lions.
