(9-12-24) Recently the Dighton-Rehoboth School District adopted a policy allowing girls’ teams to forfeit games rather than face an opponent with a male player (who is not a transgender athlete). That policy was used to forfeit an upcoming match against Somerset-Berkeley,

The rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) allow boys to compete on the girls’ team if there is no male equivalent for that sport. So, to be clear, this was not a transgender athlete.
The school district announced that it will forfeit the match rather than subject the girls to another potential serious injury.
An official statement from the school district—
“Our Field Hockey coaches and captains made this decision. There are times when we have to place a higher value on safety than on victory.”
