(12-1-24) This last weekend 8 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Football Champions were crowned.
The good news…two #1 seeds picked up titles in Class 1A and 6A.
One #3 seed and one #6 seed picked up trophies.
The bad news…two #9 seeds, one #12 seed and one #19 seed won.
- Class 1A – #1 seed
- Class 2A – #6 seed
- Class 3A – #9 seed
- Class 4A – #9 seed
- Class 5A – #3 seed
- Class 6A – #1 seed
- Class 7A – #19 seed
- Class 8A – #12 seed
Not all classes seed the same way class 8A and 7A seeds all 32 qualifiers (1-32) together, while the other classes seed two brackets of 16 (1-16)
It might be noted that of the 8 state champions 7 of them were private schools…East St. Louis was the the only public school to win a state title in Class 6A.
