With Meadville leading 63-55, late in the final quarter, a brawl broke out in the stands, sending several fans crashing to the bleachers.

At least two adults were handcuffed and escorted out of the gym.

The District 10 champion Bulldogs (17-8) will advance, unless a different ruling is handed down, to Tuesday’s second round, although they may not be with their full complement of players due to the happenings at the end of Friday’s game which are to be reviewed by the PIAA.

The Red Raiders finish their season at 22-5.

PIAA’S BOB LOMBARDI’S STATEMENT

“I have contacted the schools involved and have requested a report from them by Monday AM regarding last night’s incident.

I have no further comment until I receive their reports.”

Crawford Central School District Superintendent Dr. Jennier A. Galdon

“Due to the unfortunate incident that occurred during last night’s boys’ basketball game, the contest was brought to an early conclusion. While we regret this unexpected ending, the safety and well-being of players, fans and staff remain our top priority.”

Uniontown School District Superintendent Chuck Machesky

“Pending the results of the PIAA investigation, based on the information both schools send, as bad as the situation was, it should be put to rest once the PIAA makes its decision based on evidence.”

During a first-round Class A girls basketball playoff game played on Saturday between the fifth place team from District 7 St. Joseph and District 10 champion Farrell at Farrell, the game referees chose to empty the gym in the fourth quarter due to excessive language and yelling from spectators.

The game played in an empty gym for the final 4 minutes, 31 seconds. There was a 10-minute break in action before the game was resumed in front of necessary personnel. Farrell won the game 56-53.

Steelerettes forward Ja’Niya Daniels, who is the team’s leading rebounder and scorer, received two technical fouls and left the game in the third quarter. Daniels, at the time of her ejection, had scored a team-best 18 points and added 11 rebounds.
