(3-24-25) On April 1st voters in the Ohio (Illinois) high school district will vote to keep their school open or to close it. Ohio Community High School presently only has 20 students and 500 residents in the town…is spending almost three times as much per student when it has a graduation rate of 77%, compared to Bureau Valley and Amboy’s 89%. However, Ohio’s average SAT scores in English and math are both higher.

Should the vote be to close the district…families could choose to transfer to Bureau Valley or Amboy, both districts are 35 minutes away by school bus. The OHS district would have to pay the two other schools for each student they take on, as well as transportation costs associated with them. Full-time teachers would also be able to transfer to one of the other districts.
