(4-14-25) On February 27th, the West Virginia State Police received a phone call from the victim’s mother who claimed that her 17-year-old son had been assaulted at a basketball game that evening between Union High School and Harman School.
The mom said that her son was “elbowed in the face” by a Harman player, later identified as Gage Ketterman (18) of Bowden, and that her son had to be taken to Garrett Memorial Hospital for a broken nose that was bleeding “profusely” for more than four hours.
Union ended up winning the game over Harman 72-31.
Troopers said that Ketterman’s actions appeared to be “intentional and criminal malicious in nature.” They also determined that Ketterman was 18 at the time of the incident. With this information, troopers requested three warrants for Ketterman’s arrest—one for malicious assault and two for attempted malicious assault.

Ketterman allegedly elbowed the player in the face hard enough to break his nose and cause excessive bleeding for four hours. Facebook
Ketterman was released the same day of he was arrested after he posted a $12,500 bond. He is scheduled for a West Virginia Magistrate Court hearing on May 22nd.
