(5-16-25) New Castle will be leaving the Hoosier Heritage Conference after the 2025-26 school year. This move is effective in the 2026-27 school year and is due to enrollment disparities between New Castle and a few of the member schools (Greenfield Central, New Palestine, Pendleton Heights, and Mt. Vernon) in the conference.

The Trojans will join Shelbyville, which announced its move to the Hoosier Legends Conference in October, in leaving the HHC in 2026. With the two schools leaving the HHC will be down to six members.

New Castle High School Principal Kirk Amman told the Star Press

“It’s been a great run in the Hoosier Heritage Conference for us. We just feel like it’s time to leave the conference, mainly due to enrollment disparities, and look for a conference or start a new conference that suits our needs.

We are staying in the conference, so that give us a year to try to, more than likely, form a new conference or possibly join an existing conference, but there is no front-runner right now. East Central Indiana would be great. There’s lots of great athletic school traditions here.”
