(7-5-25) Sterling has a new Athletics and Activities Director after the hiring of Evan Wyllie this week. He returns to Illinois after a year back in Florida.

Wyllie was hired in May of 2024 as the head boys basketball coach at Choctawhatchee (Fla) High School.

The Indians finished the 2024-2025 season with an 11-15 record and reached the district championship game before having their season come to an end against Booker T. Washington (Pensacola).

Before taking the Choctawhatchee job Wyllie had spent two seasons as the basketball coach at Lincoln-Way Central High School in suburban Chicago after he moved back to Illinois from Florida…where he had been a member of the staff at the University of West Florida.

Early in his coaching career he led West Frankfort Community High School (IL) to a 21-11 record and won the Class 2A Regional Championship in his only season at the school.

Prior to his time at Frankfort, Wyllie was the head coach at Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School (IL) from 2015-2018. During his time at NCOE, he led the Fighting Cardinals to a regular season Greater Egyptian Conference championship in the 2015-16 season. During the 2017-18 campaign, his team set school records for three-pointers made in a game (19) and in a season (229).

Wyllie also spent three years at Dwight Township High School (IL) as an Assistant Coach from 2012-2015. He helped lead the Trojans to the Class 1A Regional Championship and Sangamon Valley Conference Championship during the 2014-15 season.
