(7-23-25) Minnesota high school transgender softball pitcher Marissa ‘Charlie Dean’ Rothenberger was not included on the 2025 Minnesota All-State Team.

“The sports associations of the MSHSCA each conduct their own process for selecting athletes for recognition and awards. The methods vary from one sports association to another. However, most sports associations start with a nomination process. The final selections are usually determined by a vote of association members or made by a selection committee.”

“Nearly every season, sports association leaders and the MSHSCA office are contacted to be informed that an exceptional athlete has been overlooked for recognition.”

Champlin Park head coach Bryan Woodley (or the school’s athletic department) has not clarified if he nominated Rothenberger for the All-State team.

Rothenberger, who was a Junior this past season, led Champlin Park to the Minnesota Class AAAA softball state championship. with a 12-1 record on the circle, with a 0.74 ERA, and a 0.65 WHIP. During the postseason Rothenberger pitched five consecutive games, allowing just one earned run in 35 innings and striking out 27 batters. At the plate, Rothenberger went 5-for-16, with two doubles, three RBIs, and a run scored.

Champlin Park School District provided a statement to Fox News Digital

“Throughout the entire season, and as the Rebels advance to the state tournament, it is important to note that all of the student-athletes participating for the Champlin Park Softball team are eligible to compete in compliance with Minnesota State High School League rules and applicable state law. Due to data privacy laws, the district is not able to provide public comment regarding a specific student-athlete,”
