(11–9-25) After an 11 week football season playing 10 games where Lubbock High beat Coronado for the first time since 1987 and Amarillo beat Tascosa after having to forfeit 6 games due to an ineligible player, three teams were tied for the 4th and final playoff spot and still tied after the tiebreaker so they had to leave it to chance if their season would continue.

Lubbock High, Amarillo and Caprock grabbed their favorite coin and headed to the Toot’n Totum in Plainview for a three-way coin flip around 11:50pm Friday night.

That is so Texas High School Football.

They converged around the gas pumps.

Watch that epic flip here:

It reminded so many of the three way coin flip in 1988 with Odessa Permian.

On the three-way flip, the odd man was in….the playoffs.

Lubbock High and Caprock landed on heads.

Amarillo landed on tails.

Tails never fails.

Amarillo earns the District’s 4 seed in the playoffs.

Everyone then hugged and headed back to their communities.

For our school, I was proud to see Westerner Head Coach Juan Rodriguez out there for Lubbock High after an historic win over Coronado!

KFDA NewsChannel 10 out of Amarillo was there!

As one area coach texted me at 9:59pm—

If y’all don’t send a film crew to this coin flip tonight, y’all are doing Texas high school football at the disservice!

No disservice was done to this great sport of football in the great State of Texas!
