Indy Riverside boys, LaPorte boys, Silver Creek boys, Homestead girls cited as IBCA Teams of the Week

Mt. Vernon (Fortville) sophomore Zoey Wood, Greensburg junior Claire Larrison, Northridge senior Brady Scholl, Plainfield senior Noah Smith and Crawford County sophomore Braxton Bowman join Bricker as Week 9 winners in the IBCA Player of the Week program for 2025-26.

Also, the Indianapolis Riverside boys’ team, LaPorte boys’ team, Silver Creek boys’ team and the Homestead girls’ team each was cited as an IBCA/Ballogy Team of the Week for respective performances during the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 3 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Players of the Week are selected by IHSAA district – Scholl and Bricker for District 1, Smith and Wood for District 2, and Bowman and Larrison for District 3. Teams of the Week are cited at the discretion of the program coordinators, former Martinsville coach Kip Staggs for boys and former Brownsburg coach Debbie Smiley for girls. Players and teams are recognized based on all performances in a Monday through Saturday week.

Bricker totaled 133 points in a 4-0 week to push her career total to 1,635 points, passing the previous Warsaw record of 1,607 points set by 2004 Indiana Miss Basketball Jaclyn Leininger.

The 5-9 guard opened her week with 28 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals as the Class 4A co-No. 1 Warsaw girls topped Fairfield 76-58 in a regular-season contest. She followed with 43 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals in an 89-25 victory over Peru in the first round of the Warsaw Invitational. The Butler University recruit tallied 36 points with seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in an 84-22 decision over Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter. She completed her week with 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists in an 80-36 triumph over Columbia City.

For the four games, Bricker sank 49-of-81 field goals, 20-of-30 3-pointers and 15-of-17 free throws. That included a 17-of-23, 8-of-10 and 1-of-1 effort in the 43-point outburst. She also averaged 8.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the week as the Tigers improved to 17-1.

 Wood averaged 24.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in leading the Mt. Vernon girls (8-6) to a 2-1 effort and third-place finish in the Twin Lakes Invitational. The 5-5 guard scored 31 points with three rebounds, one assist and two steals in a 50-43 first-round victory over McCutcheon. She followed with 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 53-38 second-round setback to Crown Point. Wood completed her week with 27 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals as the Marauders topped Twin Lakes 67-29. For the three games, Wood hit on 28-of-51 field goals, 13-of-23 3-pointers and 5-of-10 free throws.

 Larrison posted two double-doubles with norms of 24.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists over five games for the Class 3A No. 3 Greensburg girls (11-5). The 5-11 wing totaled 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists one steal and two blocks in a 57-38 victory over Class 4A No. 13 Westfield in the first round of the Northridge Invitational. She followed with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a 64-58 loss to Northridge. Larrison bounced back with 28 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks while passing the 1,000-point milestone in a 65-56 decision over Class A No. 2 Marquette Catholic. She netted 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists one steal and two blocks in an 84-44 title-game setback to Class 4A No. 6 Homestead. Then in a Saturday regular-season game, Larrison tallied 28 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks as the Pirates outlasted Class 3A No. 7 Jennings County 49-36.

 For the five games, Larrison was 43-88 from the field, 12-28 from distance and 22-of-26 from the line. She finished the week with an overall total of 1,057 points, putting her in eighth place on her school’s career scoring list. Larrison could climb to as high No. 4 on the school list during the 2025-26 season. She has a good chance of surpassing the school record of 1,729 points set by 2001 graduate Sara Riedeman in the 2026-27 season.

 Scholl averaged 26.3 points and 11.0 rebounds over three games as the Class 4A No. 10 Northridge boys won the Phil Cox Memorial Invitational at Kokomo. The 6-7 forward poured in a career-high 40 points with 13 rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots in a 76-64 first-round victory over Merrillville. He followed with 30 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two blocks in a 76-61 semifinal decision over Kokomo. Scholl tallied nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks as the Raiders defeated Class 4A No. 8 South Bend Riley in the title game.

For the three games, Scholl converted 32-of-50 shots, 4-of-8 3-pointers and 11-of-19 free throws. That included him going 14-of-19, 3-of-3 and 9-of-14 in the 40-point game. Scholl also passed the 1,000-point mark during the week, pushing his total to 1,045 points. That puts him 11 th on the Northridge all-time list with a chance at reaching the school’s top five scorers.

 Smith posted three double-doubles over four games while also reaching the 1,000-point plateau as the Class 4A No. 4 Plainfield boys (10-1) finished runner-up in the Ray Furney Holiday Classic at Lawrenceburg. The 6-8 forward opened with 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block in a 71-39 victory over Guerin Catholic. He totaled 32 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steals in an 85-49 runaway over Castle. The DePaul signee tallied 26 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 72-57 semifinal decision over Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian. He notched 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 79-67 title-game setback to Class 3A No. 2 Silver Creek.

For the four games, Smith sank 37-of-53 fielders, 8-of-16 3-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws while averaging 22.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He pushed his career total to 1,044 points to move into 10th place on the school’s all-time list with a chance to move into its top five.

Bowman posted norms of 29.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.7 steals in keying the Crawford County boys to a 2-1 week. He opened with 26 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 62-58 loss to Evansville Christian in the fifth-place game of the Perry-Spencer PSC Fiber Shootout. The 6-0 guard followed with 41 points, six rebounds, six assists and seven steals in a 72-58 victory over Shoals. He completed his week with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Wolfpack (7-4) outlasted Medora 65-57. In the three games, Bowman sank 28-of-50 from the floor, 4-of-12 from distance and 27-of-35 from the line. That included 14-of-15, 2-of-5 and 11-of-17 in his 41-point explosion.

Team of the Week honors went to Indianapolis Riverside, LaPorte and Silver Creek for boys as well as Homestead for girls.

The Indianapolis Riverside boys, 10-0 for the season and coached by Justin Bennett, won the championship of the Edinburgh Invitational at 3-0. The Argonauts topped Northeastern 52-35, Borden 54-43 and Alexandria 50-49. LaPorte, 9-1 for the season and coached by Jordan Heckard, captured the LaPorte Invitational. The Slicers knocked off Lighthouse CPC (Gary) 62-46, East Chicago Central 78-52 and Michigan City 45-42. Silver Creek, 12-1 overall and coached by Brandon Hoffman, went 4-0 to seize the title of the Ray Furney Holiday Classic at Lawrenceburg. The Class 3A No. 2 Dragons defeated Indianapolis Shortridge 74-45, Harrison (West Lafayette) 81-51, Bloomington South 63-47 and Class 4A No. 4 Plainfield 79-67.

The Class 4A No. 6 Homestead girls, now 15-2 overall and coached by Rod Parker, went 4-0 in claiming the championship of the Northridge Invitational. The Spartans beat Penn 78-42, Rushville 65-16, Franklin Central 65-51 and Class 3A No. 3 Greensburg 84-44. This is Homestead’s second time being the girls’ Team of the Week. It previously was recognized for the week of Nov. 10-15.

  This is the 18th season for the IBCA Player of the Week program. This is the second season for the IBCA Team of the Week program and the second season the Team of the Week program is presented by Ballogy, an IBCA corporate partner.

Coaches may nominate players and teams via buttons on the IBCA website (in.nhsbca.org). Coaches must be a current-year member for their players and/or team to be selected for a weekly award. Girls’ winners are chosen from now through Monday following the IHSAA girls’ State Finals. Boys’ winners are chosen from now through the Monday following the IHSAA boys’ State Finals.
