(2-12-26) Southern Wells upcoming Board of Trustees meeting next week will have a lot of eyes on what will take place for the future of the Raiders athletic programs.

The board agenda tells what will be discussed….it may be a curve ball proposal for the ACAC and Mid-Eastern Conference (MEC) membership to consider. The Southern Wells administration it seems would like to become a two-conference member…instead of deciding to stay in the ACAC or move to the MEC.

Ryan Walker (Sports Editor & Reporter at The Bluffton News-Banner) posted on his X account the basis of the upcoming agenda item. Be sure to look at the replies he added to the initial tweet.
Can a high school athletic program actually be a part of two separate conferences and make it work. Yes! It is not common…but there is examples-
Example in Ohio –
The Putnam County League (PCL) in Ohio has three of its current eight members in a 2nd league—
- Columbus Grove – a member of the Northwest Conference
- Leipsic – a member of the Blanchard Valley Conference
- Pandora-Gilboa – – a member of the Blanchard Valley Conference
The other five members are just in the PCL…they do not football teams.
In Indiana…Homestead and Carroll are members of the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) but only compete in football and boys and girls basketball…other sports are competing as independents.
Many schools compete as associate members in a one-sport conference.
Two stateline area Ohio Conference, the Midwest Athletic Conference, has one school, Anna…the Northwest Conference has one school, Ft.Loramie…who BOTH only competes in football.
So it can work…but now for Southern Wells the decision could be decided on February 17th.
