Boys Basketball-Who is #1 in the US?

(1-17-17) Lots of quality boys HS boys basketball teams playing their best after the MLK tournament weekend.

The #1 Private school is Sierra Canyon, Nathan Hale remains the top rated Public school, MaxPreps Top 25 and USA Top 25 team, while the new #1  Independent school  is IMG Academy,  the move came after last week’s #1 La Lumiere lost to Sierra Canyon 76-74.

Heading into the second half of the season, Nathan Hale will finish their season playing only schools from Washington, which should be an advantage for them in winning a possible National title.

SSN National Girls HS Basketball Public School Rankings, Riverdale Remains #1

(1-17-17) Riverdale continues to hang on to the #1 ranking in the SSN National Girls HS Basketball Public School poll.  Riverdale picked up three wins during the week, including  15th ranked Norcross (Ga). To add to the week,  Anastasia Hayes (signed with Tennessee) was named a McDonald’s All American.

Moving up to #2 is Centennial who knocked off last week’s #2 Clovis West with an easy 70-46 win.

Only one new school enters the rankings and comes in at #18, defending  Illinois Class 2A State Champion Byron.  The Tigers bring back the majority of that State title team.  Byron is 19-2, the losses were both to state-ranked Class 4A teams, Montini (56-52) and 16-1 Rockford Boylan Catholic (44-35). Montini is ranked #1 in Illinois and is nationally ranked in several other sources.

The Tigers, hosting their own MLK tournament, went 4-0 beating three more 4A schools in the process, Rockford East, Rockford Jefferson and Rockford Guilford.

#1 National Boys Public School Basketball Team, Nathan Hale or Chino Hills?

Nathan Hale-Sierra Canyon Highlights

(1-2-17) This past weekend had a HUGE impact and will shake-up this week’s National rankings, both in Public and Private school rankings.

Seattle Nathan Hale upset everybody’s #1 Sierra Canyon 67-65 at the Les Schwab Invitational. With the win MaxPreps decided to jump Nathan Hale from #7 to #1 in their  Top 25 Rankings.

The MaxPreps poll also dropped eight schools after this week; including Chicago Public school power Curie, who dropped two games at the prestigious Pontiac (Ill) Holiday Tournament.

Making the biggest jump in both the MaxPreps and the Public School rankings is, McEachern (12-0) of Powder Springs, Ga. The young team won the National Division of the  Tournament of Champions Classic in the Atlanta area.

Sierra Canyon, despite the upset loss, remains as the #1 Private school in the US and dropped to #3 behind both Public Schools in the Top 25.

The biggest changes comes in the Public school rankings, Nathan Hale  leapfrogged over last week’s #1 Chino Hills, who still remains undefeated (16-0) and rides a 51-game winning streak.  This change should raise some ‘eyebrows’ and will be something ‘poll watchers’ will be keeping an eye on during the 2017 portion of the schedule.

A Look At The National Boys Basketball Rankings

(12-6-16) Boys HS Basketball continues to gain major attention, including national sites like MaxPreps and USA Today who rank on a weekly basis the top US programs.

This year MaxPreps has decided to have  two rankings, one for independent programs and one for high schools who are public or private programs and a part of state high school athletic association.

Below are the latest rankings currently listed on both sites. Both sites have LaLumiere (MaxPreps Independent) rated as the #1 team in the country. MaxPreps Top 25 has Sierra Canyon rated at #1.

In the USA Today Top 10, only one public school, Chino Hills (Calif) cracks the Top 10 and #10.
