(7-20-17) – The NCAA’s new December signing period, August is now a NCAA dead period, has put the 20th Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown next month into a scheduling mess and has eliminated the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium to host six Showdown games.
UC sports information director Ryan Koslen:
“With the recent change in football recruiting calendar, August is now a dead period. That means no events can be hosted on campus. The second issue is the third-party promoter. If it was two schools playing a game on their own and it wasn’t in August, then it would be allowed.”
The announcement from the Showdown promoters comes with just a little over a month before those games are scheduled to be played.
Friday – August 25th
- Elder vs. Lakota West
- Colerain vs. La Salle
Saturday – August 26th
- Lakota East vs. Walnut Hills
- Milford vs. Oak Hills
- Hinsdale Central (Ill.) vs. St. Xavier
- Hamilton vs. Moeller
Teams from Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky in addition to Ohio are expected to participate in the 2017 Showdown, scheduled to run from Aug. 18 to Sept. 8 at various sites.
According to Showdown officials an announcement will be made at 3 p.m. Monday, July 24th to update the possible changes in place. No word from any source if the home of the NFL Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium, is a possibility to host the six games scheduled for Nippert.
