(August 25, 2017) – Adams Central will honor long-time football coach and athletic director Rick Minnich (1970 Adams Central Grad) on Friday, September 1, during the home game with Lapel. At halftime, a dedication will take place to rename the football field Minnich Field.
Rick Minnich was head coach at AC from 1977–2008, he also was a Varsity assistant at the school from 1974-1976. Minnich had an overall winning percentage of .632 (235-136) and a play-off record of .716 (63-25).
Minnich served as a North All-Star assistant coach 1998, 2000; Class 1A Football Coach of the Year; won 6 ACAC titles, 16 Sectional Championships, 10 Regional Championships, 1 Semi-State Championship. and 1 State Championship. The State title win came in 2000, when the Jets beat Attica 29-21.
During his high school career at Adams Central he was an All-State, All-Conference running back and led the Flying Jets to the conference championship his senior year. His high school coach was the school’s first ever football coach (1967-1972) Fred Hilbert, a Celina grad, who later became the Head Coach for the Bulldogs after his stay in Indiana.
Before the game from 5:00 – 6:30pm, a reception will be held in the cafetorium for all AC football players, coaches and friends.
