(3-25-18) Loyola has surprised many people this season in the NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Tournament, a big part of the Ramblers’ success is Jacobs grad Cameron Krutwig.
(NOTE: A memory of mine covering a high school boys basketball game during the Illinois High School boys basketball Sectional tournament (2015-16) game at Rock Valley College. )
Jacobs and Krutwig, who was just a Junior, came into Rockford to take on home town favorite Auburn. It was a packed house and the atmosphere of a great high school basketball game.
You could tell Krutwig was a special player that night, he kept Jacobs in the game in the 1st half, he was a load for the Knights.
Auburn would go on to win 58-39 and did make to the State finals, where they finished fourth. Krutwig never had the chance to compete for a State title, but he will be playing for a national championship next weekend in San Antonio.
Media press members see many, many high school basketball games, but not many of those players go on to grab the attention of an entire country. Krutwig has turned into that player and has turned Loyola into the people’s choice to win the national championship.
So the next time you go to a high school basketball game you may get to see a player like Krutwig, it does happen.
