In an email statement from Parkway Schools Superintendent Jeanne Osterfeld says a decision to hire a new football coach may happen at this July’s Board of Education meeting.
The hiring committee is anticipating the recommendation of Rob Rutledge as the Parkway Head Football Coach at the July board meeting. However, no action or recommendation has been made at this time.
Parkway’s Shane Wellman stepped down from his position earlier this school year. Wellman coached the Panthers for two seasons.
The Panthers’ lone win last season was against Northwest Conference Champion Spencerville who went 7-0 in the league and 9-3 overall. The Bearcats eventually lost in the Division VI, Region 24 Regional Semifinal game at Piqua to State Campion Marion Local 35-0.

Rob ‘Dusty” Rutledge is a 1988 Parkway graduate, but since he left Rockford he has been involved with coaching at a very high level, including D I.
Rutledge has been a part of programs during his football coaching career in the PAC 12, Big East and Big 10 working with Head Coach Rich Rodriguez.
Most recently he was at the University of Arizona football program as the Director of High School Relations, Camps and Clinics in 2016. Rutledge also worked at Michigan during the 2008-10 seasons in an external relations role.
Rutledge was the video coordinator at West Virginia from 2001-07, after spending four seasons (1997-2000) as a special assistant to Indiana Head Coach Cam Cameron.
Before he arrived at Indiana Rutledge was the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator under Rodriguez for three seasons at Glenville State (1994-96). He assisted Rodriguez during the seasons when the Pioneers earned three WVIAC titles. Rutledge also coached the offensive line at Fairmont State College (1988-93).
Rutledge graduated from Fairmont State with a bachelor’s degree in 1991. During three of his years at Fairmont, he played football and remains one of college football’s last player-coaches.
Rutledge was a regular on the Discovery TV Reality Show ‘American Muscles’.
