(6-26-18) Harvard has named Andrew Walters as its new Athletic Director at tonight’s Harvard Community Unit School District 50 Board of Education monthly meeting.
The need for a new AD, Matt Rife, who has been the Harvard AD since 2013 is moving to Lakes to teach social studies and coach.
Walters (34) for the past two years has been the dean of students, before that he taught health for 12 years and has been the varsity baseball coach since the 2012 season just down the road in Belvidere.
Walters is a Belvidere and Northern Illinois University graduate.
Walters will officially take over the athletic department responsibilities in July.
Harvard principal Carl Hobbs, who was the Belvidere AD and assistant principal before he moved to his new position this past fall said in a media release:
“[Walters] is a well-rounded individual. I look forward to his forward-thinking approach.”
Former Belvidere District Athletic Director Bryon Houy, hired Walters as a teacher and baseball coach at Belvidere:
I have known Andrew a long time and was proud to hire him at Belvidere High School as a Teacher and as the Head Baseball Coach. Andrew has always wanted to be an Athletic Director and has excelled in his progression from teacher and coach, to Dean and now to AD. This is a tremendous hire for Harvard as they are getting a man with tremendous leadership ability who will support his coaches, his community and especially his students. Some of Andrew’s many talents include his work ethic, his communication skills and his drive to be successful. I am extremely proud of Andrew and have the fullest confidence he will do an excellent job as Athletic Director in Harvard.
