(8-17-18) Tonight in Wisconsin the nation’s consecutive game winning streak ended at 70. Kimberly lost to rival Fond du Lac 31-28 in the season opener for both schools. Fond du Lac hit a 26 Yard Field Goal by Jared Scheberl on the final play of the game.

Last season the two teams played twice with Kimberly winning both games, the regular season match-up 35-28 and the playoff game 28-21. In both games the Cardinals came close to ending the streak last year.
The Papermakers last loss was to Arrowhead 31-7 in 2012 in a state quarterfinal game.
It is the second week in a row that a long streak was broken, last week Soldotna (Alaska) lost on the last play of the game 18-13 to Anchorage West ending their 59 game winning streak.
With the top streaks ending, next in line is Lamar (Missouri) who has a 48 game winning streak. They start the season next week at Logan-Rogersville.
Lamar Coach Scott Bailey talks about the winning tradition….
“If you asked me 10 years ago, I’d say a state championship makes it worthwhile…but the 1st..the 7th..none of them filled me up. I think it’s about trying to build something with the kids that lasts more than just 1 season.”
