(9-19-18) The COF Academy ‘soap opera’ continues as its football program moves on. The Third District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church has posted on its web site that there is absolutely no affiliation between the school and the Church.

The Third District African Methodist Episcopal Church (Third District) has not authorized any person, whether they be officers, staff, pastors or anyone associated with the Third District to commit the Third District, in any form or fashion to any activities of the COF Academy (COF) and/or the Richard Allen Group (RAG)

This has turned into something that might have taken place on an episode of the Twilight Zone, the COF Academy has made several statements concerning OHSAA membership and affiliation with the AME Church, which included financial support for the school…none have proven to be true at this time.

***Ohio schools are permitted to play COF Academy in football, but since they are not an OHSAA member school they will not be awarded computer points, which will be a major factor the next year when they try and schedule schools.

***Clarification from OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass:

OHSAA policy has always been that “if it is a school – points are given”. That explains that points are given when an Ohio school defeats a Canadian school – points are given since it is a Canadian “school”.

Keep in mind that Ohio is one of the few states that permits member schools to participate against non-members.

The question lies in whether they are a “school” Or not. At present, they ODE lists them as an “08 school” – meaning that opponents are awarded points for victories contests.

According to their MaxPreps Football page they are 0-5 on the season, they have scheduled some of the top schools in Ohio and around the country.

  • 8-17 – Clarkson Football North (Canada) Lost – 35-0
  • 8-24 – North Allegheny (Pa) Lost 45-20
  • 8-31 – Wayne Lost 42-6
  • 9-7 – Lima Sr- Lost 26-14
  • 9-14 – Cleveland St. Ignatius Lost 35-0

  • 10-19 – Christian Brothers (Missouri)
  • 10-26 – IMG Academy
  • 11-2 – San Antonio Cornerstone Christian  (Tx)

It is one of the strangest things to ever happen in Ohio high school football history and the final story-line has been hand in.
