(1-7-20) – Before South Adams and Indiana consolidation kicked in many small schools were located in the Stateline area. One school was Berne and like all of the other Indiana schools the Bears had a boys basketball team.
Taking a look back at the 1940 season ( a year before Pearl Harbor), you will see the Bears went 15-7 and lost in the sectionals to Pleasant Mills 38-24. Most of the Bears’ schedule included schools, who like Berne, were closed and consolidated. The last Berne team to hit the hardwood before consolidating with Geneva was in 1966.
