(1-23-20) Hall of Fame High School Basketball Coach Morgan Wootten passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88. Wooten coached for 46 seasons at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. He led the Stags to five national championships and 33 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) titles. In 2000, he was the third high school coach to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Wooten was also one of the founders of McDonald’s All-American games.
In 1988 he was asked about how he wanted to be remembered-
“I would like to be remembered as a good husband, a good father, a good teacher and a person who really cared about other people.”

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. All services are at DeMatha Catholic High School Brendan Looney Convocation Center at 4313 Madison Street in Hyattsville. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Morgan Wootten Scholarship Fund at DeMatha High School.
