(3-7-20) It is the Rockford Guilford Class 4A Regional Championship game…Hononegah had the ball with 1.1 seconds left, tied with NIC 10 rival Rockford East, and the Indians were taking the ball out of bounds from three quarters court down. Enter Sophomore Owen Hart, who hadn’t scored a point all night, add a perfect pass from Gabe Roessler…the shot almost like slo-motion flew up and in.
Pandemonium broke out!
Hononegah Head Coach Mike Miller told the Beloit Daily News after the win –
“We thought Owen had a quick enough release to get it off and I knew Gabe is a terrific baseball player and I knew he could make the pass. (East) came out in a zone and Trent set a real good screen and Chris set a good screen and that allowed that pass to get through. Gabe made the perfect pass and Owen knocked it down.”
Rumor has it Hart said in the huddle (wink, wink) –
I’ll make it
But then again that is how they make movies….
