(8-25-20) It is a sad story of high caliber athlete who let his fame and fortune take a hold of his life…and in the end sent him on a path of destroying his life.
Lima Senior graduate Greg Simpson saw his relationship with his Alma mater come to a sad ending last night when the Lima City Schools Board of Education, in an unanimous vote, terminated his employment at the district.
In February Simpson was convicted of a third-degree charge of tampering with a record, another charge, tampering with a record charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.
According to the above resolution it was the reason for his dismissal –
“Greg Simpson has demonstrated that he is not capable of effectively performing the functions and duties required of a Campus Protection Officer when he provided falsified drivers’ education certificates to Lima City School students and was subsequently arrested and ultimately sent to jail for this offense in July 2020.”
Simpson, a two-time Ohio Mr. Basketball, saw his life after Lima Senior filled with conflict and run ins with the law. During his collegiate basketball career he was kicked off two D I college basketball teams, Ohio State and West Virginia.
Simpson may be Ohio State’s basketball version of the Buckeye’s Art Schlichter, a Buckeye’s All-American Quarterback.
Schlichter (60) was released on August 18, 2020 from a federal prison in Florence, Colorado. He was transferred to the custody of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to serve what an Ohio Judges estimated to be nine months on the remaining part of his state sentence.
