(9-7-20) On Saturday at the Columbus Grove Cross Country Invitational an act of sportsmanship shined brightly.
According to a Tweet from Bryan Athletics the Golden Bears’s Adrienne Struble stopped to help another runner who had a medical issue and needed help. She would help carry the girl out of the woods for medical assistance.
The tweet summed it up perfectly – a true act of heroism and sportsmanship.
But Adrienne didn’t stop…she continued with the rest of the race. She would finish fourth for her team and 52nd (61st overall) with a time of 27:46.666. Bryan would finish 5th out of nine teams in the White Division.
But in the end this ‘Good Samaritan’ would come away as the BIGGEST winner with this act of kindness.
Editor’s Note– After the story was posted we found out two other runners helped the runner in distress – Thanks to Elmwood HS Prinical Ty Traxler and Bath’s Ryan Schadewald for help in identifying these two young ladies.
There were two other young ladies who showed their compassion to the runner in need and helped carry her out of the woods, Elmwood’s Lainey Bingham and Bath’s Ireland Lawrence.
Both girls finished the race Bingham was 64th (overall) with a time 28:02.147, Lawrence’s time was 27.50.478 and finished 62nd (overall).
