(10-23-20) 2020 will always be remembered as the Year of the Pandemic in high school football around the country. We’ve seen coaches and players quarantined, crowds social distanced and games canceled in the middle of week.
But when the announcement of the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC) selections were released today it must have caused another pandemic situation at Homestead.
Named as the 2nd team SAC QB was Homestead’s Evan Ormsby…is that right, is it a mistake. Nope right there in black and white and there it is.
Two other QBs were named ahead of him as the 1st team selections, Ft. Wayne North Side’s Duce Taylor and Carroll’s Jeff Becker, well deserving and impressive seasons for sure.
But let’s look at what Ormsby did during a pandemic season….
Ormsby faced some additional pressure…he was replacing last season’s SAC’s 1st team QB Luke Goode, who threw for over 2,700 yards. But Goode, a Big 10 basketball commit to Illinois, decided to focus on basketball during his senior season and leave football behind this year.
Next man up….Evan Ormsby. The Senior QB, who played only a limited amount of plays on defense last season and before this season had only played in 1 game as QB during his sophomore season (1 for 2 and 13 yards).
Ormsby would be one of the main reasons the Spartans would win their 2nd consecutive SAC title. His season stats were impressive, he was 110 for 192 and 1959 yards passing with 30 TDs. Add the 159 yards rushing on 59 carries and he put over 2,000 total yards on offense.
Things started to click for the Ormsby in game 4 and he just continued to improve with impressive numbers every week after that.

In his best game of the regular season…in a 70-41 win over Carroll he had 436 yards passing, 6 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs.
So may the SAC could add Ormsby to the 1st team…he deserved it.
