(11-21-20) It should be a game to remember…the IHSAA Class A State Football Final. Two undefeated and high scoring teams, Covenant Christian (14-0) and South Adams (13-0).

Both team won big again last night in State SemiState games, #5 Covenant Christian knocked off undefeated West Washington 55-8, while #1 South Adams eliminated defending State Champion Lafayette Central Catholic 42-9.

For both teams these are a first in school history…a State SemiState trophy and a trip to the State Final game.

Last night the Warriors beat an undefeated West Washington team 55-8 thanks to scoring 29 points in the 2nd quarter, the Senators had averaged 46 points a game and had 4 shutouts this season. Covenant Christian is the real deal.

Warriors’ QB Austin Frazier threw only 6 passes and completed 5, but four of them were TDs (57, 35, 41 and 27 yards) and he finished the night with 166 total yards passing.

RB Michah Wilson led the way on the ground with 12 carries and 168 yards with two TDs (1 and 27 yards).

WR Trey Flatt had two receptions for 84 yards, both were TDs.

South Adams the #1 ranked team in Indiana has been on a mission since losing last season in the Regional final to county rival Adams Central. Last night they beat defending State Champion Lafayette Central Catholic 42-9…mission accomplished.

Despite a slow start and trailing early 3-0 and leading just 14-3 at the half… South Adams Coach Grant Moser (a South Adams grad) knew what his kids are capable of accomplishing, he told outsidethehuddle.net after the win:

We are lightning in a bottle offensively. If it doesn’t come early, we have to be patient, we know it will come. You saw in the first half we scored 14 and left some points out there, but we came up huge after halftime.”

That proved true again last night.

QB James Arnold led the Starfires to nearly 500 yards of offense, but he always has a lot of help.

TE Nick Miller had a 40 yard TD catch and added a one yard TD run.

Trey Schoch caught 5 passes for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns (one for 65 yards) and on defense he had an interception.

Christian Summersett led the ground game for the Starfires with 21 carries for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns, on defense he had 4 tackles.

One thing for sure next Saturday afternoon, only one team will still be undefeated and one first time state champion will be crowned. It might all depend on which team gets the football last or which team’s defense can control their opponent.
