(4-12-21) Seven schools from three conferences (Three Rivers Conference, Western Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio Heritage Conference ) have formed a new single-sport tennis league. According to those involved in the formation the league will include round-robin scheduling beginning in the 2021-22 school year and a postseason tournament.
The new league, still without a name, will include:
- Lehman Catholic
- Preble Shawnee
NOTE: Greenon and Greeneview will participate in the conference in girls and possibly in boys, depending on if the OHC has enough boys teams next spring.
Lehman Catholic boys and girls tennis coach Tim Ungericht told the Stdney Daily News –
“It will help the athletic directors and coaches with the scheduling, Coach Roll (Lehman Catholic athletic director Richard Roll) already put together the dates for the round-robin schedule. We just have to fill in the teams. Right now, we are playing anybody and everybody.”
For Lehman Catholic single-sport leagues are nothing new. The Lehman Catholic boys and girls soccer teams were charter members of the Western Ohio Soccer League that started play in 2014. Single=sport leagues fill-in the void that some all sports leagues do not give member schools opportunities to compete in a league setting in certain sports.
