(6-12-21) The Lincolnview Lancers will play for the D IV State Baseball title on Sunday in Canton after winning 2-1 in the State semifinal game over Valley in an outstanding pitching match-up. To add to the excitement all of the game’s runs were scored in the 7th inning.
Lincolnview will advance to play Warren JFK ( who beat Ft. Loramie 2-1) for the D IV State title, on Sunday morning at 10am.
All-Ohio Player of the Year and Ohio State recruit Landon Price flirted early with a no-hitter, he still had a day to remember…striking out 14 (including the first 9 Valley hitters), walking one, allowing just two hits and a 7th inning unearned run. Not to be out done Valley’s George Arnett (Soph) pitched a complete game giving up 3 hits, striking out 4, walking two and two earned runs.
The game came down to the 7th inning and that was when the fireworks started.
In the top of the inning the Lancers’ Collin Overholt started the inning with a double…Brinkley, with one out, would get a RBI single to score Overholt and give Lincolnview the 1-0 lead. Caden Hanf would get the Lancers the 2nd run of the game with a sacrifice fly scoring Dane Ebel who had walked, stole 2nd and had advanced on Binkley’s hit.
In the bottom of the 7th inning…Andrew Andronis reached first on a throwing error and would advance to 2nd on a wild pitch by Price. Edwards would double and score Andronis from 2nd. A failed bunt attempt to get Edwards would fail and he was out at 3rd base. That is when Price did his thing…striking out the next two hitters…one was swinging and the other was a watched 3rd strike.
