(10-21-21) Friday night in Charlotte, NC Butler (6-2, 5-0) won its fifth straight game 28-21 over Charlotte Cayholic and won at least a share of the Southwesterm 4A title. The Bulldogs have a chance to win the title outright in two weeks when they host archrival Independence. Charlotte Catholic (6-2, 4-1) had a four-game win streak snapped on Senior Night, when it honored 31 seniors. This should have been the story for the night…but it wasn’t… as the pre-game banner raising by the Butler cheerleaders would be a viral moment.
The game did not start out on a positive note. Butler’s cheerleaders, before the start of the game, held up a sign that read, “Sniff, sniff. You smell that? $Privilege$,” with the word privilege painted in white. Soon social media was lit up with comments about the incident.
Statements from both sides….
