CELINA, Ohio, October 28, 2021 — The Grand Lake Mariners Baseball Club has entered into an affiliation with the West Ohio Crush 13U organization, a competitive youth baseball program. Board members approved the affiliation at a recent special meeting.

The West Ohio Crush 13U will become the Grand Lake Mariners 13U and adopt the Mariners colors and logo as a continuation of the brand. The affiliation is effective immediately and will give west central Ohio youth an opportunity to play baseball at an advanced level.

Board members also elected Bill Rockwell, President of West Ohio Crush 13U, to the Grand Lake Mariners Board of Directors. Rockwell, now a business development director for PowerObjects, was a four-year starting shortstop at Muskingum University and a three-year All Ohio Athletic Conference honoree.

Rockwell said –

“I’m confident the Grand Lake Mariners 13U will contribute to the legacy that the Mariners have been building for decades. I am proud to join the board and trust the youth program will represent the Mariners with sportsmanship and enthusiasm.”

The Grand Lake Mariners 13U will compete in elite state and national tournaments. Their first season competing as a Mariners affiliate will begin April 2022.

The Grand Lake Mariners were founded in 1989 and played their first game in 1990. The team will enter its 33rd season in 2022. They are the second oldest franchise in The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. The Great Lakes League is one of eight summer leagues approved by the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB) and the only summer collegiate league sponsored by Major League Baseball, which requires the use of wood bats.
