Houseworth’s Boys Basketball Projections and outlook for 12-6-21.
As we get our first looks at teams across the state, it’s no surprise that several divisions feature a new #1. D-I is no exception as Gahanna Lincoln jumps Moeller to claim the top spot in the division. The Lions secured a trio of double-digit wins over Westerville North, Taft, and Westland to become the top team in D-I. GLHS is followed closely by St. X, Mentor, Moeller, and our of our biggest movers: Brush.
St Vincent-St Mary is still the top team in D-II despite a pair of showcase losses. The first was a thriller in the All-Ohio Showcase against Pickerington North, followed by a west coast trip to L.A. where they fell to nationally ranked Sierra Canyon. Despite some shuffling, the top 5 remain the same with Columbus Desales, Buchtel, Alter, and Lima Shawnee.
Aside from former #1 Lutheran East, most of the top teams in D-III were idle in the early going, some due to scheduling, some due to football playoffs. As a result of a lackluster showing, the former #1 falls all the way to #4, with Wheelersburg taking the top spot, followed by Winchester Eastern, O-G, and Harvest Prep sliding into the #5 spot.
An opening weekend loss to Fairfield sees the former #1 Richmond Heights knocked from their perch. With three dominant wins, Antwerp takes over the #1 spot, outscoring their opponents by an average of 33.3 points per game so far this season. Richmond Heights comes in at #2, followed by New Bremen, defending state champion Botkins, and Lucasville Valley. Ottoville and Lima Perry also appear in the top 10.
