(3-2-22) Last night Coldwater (Michigan) beat Otsego 54-46 on Senior Night. The Cardinals picked up the win, but a special part of the night was when Senior co-captain and four year starter Ethan Crabtree was able to start and score his last basket in his career.
Before the game both teams agreed to trade uncontested buckets, so that Crabtree, who had suffered a season ending knee injury (a torn ACL) in a non-conference win over Portage Northern on February 8th, was able to score one last basket. After he hit the layup he was substituted for and left the game with hugs from his teammates…plus a standing ovation from the crowd in appreciation for his being a part of the Cardinal program.
The Hope College commit on the season averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
The way Crabtree was honored is a classy way for opponents to honor an injured Senior, it continues to be used more and more…it is a great form of sportsmanship for both sides.
