(3-30-22) The 2022 Mr. Indiana five finalists. This group has a Big 10 flavor which includes two Purdue recruits, an Indiana recruit, a Wisconsin recruit and one uncommitted player.
Mr. Basketball is awarded each year to the outstanding senior player who receives the most votes from the state’s high school coaches and media. Mr. Indiana wears the #1 jersey in the All-Star series with Kentucky this summer.
Homestead’s Fletcher Loyer (6’4) was named the Gatorade Player of the Year and is a Purdue recruit. Loyer averaged 26.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game for Homestead. His brother Foster was 2018 Mr. Basketball in Michigan at Clarkston.
Central Noble’s Connor Essegian (6-4) who is a Wisconsin recruit…he averaged 26.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game and led the Cougars to a 3A title game this season.
Lawrence North’s CJ Gunn (6’5), an Indiana recruit, was limited this season to just 17 games due to an early season injury, he averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
Chesterton’s Travis Grayson (5’10) led his team to a 4A state finals appearance for first time in school history. Grayson averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.8 rebounds this season.
Westfield’s Braden Smith (6’0) is the 2nd Purdue recruit, he averaged 18.3 points, 6.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game to lead Westfield to a 22-7 record and the first sectional championship.
