(4-20-22) Pitching a perfect game or hitting for the cycle is something baseball players strive to accomplish. Each accomplishment is special to say the least…but when one player does them both in the same game, at any level…that is really something.

Eastside senior Owen Willard accomplished both…he pitched a a 5-inning perfect game with 10 strikeouts and then would hit for the cycle in the Blazers’ 14-0 win over Prairie Heights at the Tin Caps’ Parkview Park..

After leading the Blazers to the IHSAA 2A state final game last season, Willard has picked up where he left off and continues to impress. The senior is staying close to home to play college baseball for Purdue Ft. Wayne next season.

Willard was red-hot hitting from the start of the game with a home run. He added a double in the 2nd inning, a triple in the 4th and the single in the 5th inning to complete the cycle.
