(6-18-22) #1 Buchanan (29-4) beat #16 Detroit Edison (25-13) 3-1 at Michigan State’s McLane Stadium to pick up the MHSAA D3 state title.

Leading the Bucks on offense was Matthew Hoover who had the two doubles and 2 RBIs, Macoy West had two singles and a RBI. The two had 4 of the 5 hit Buchanan hits.

Hoover picked up the pitching win going 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits, an earned run, striking out 8 and walking 2. West gave up just 1 hit and 2 K’s to pick up the save.

West came in for relief in the sixth inning to face the bottom half of the Edison batting order, retiring three of the four batters he faced. Hoover came back in to start the 7th inning before West would come back in for his 2nd appearance on the mound with the base loaded after Hoover had reached his pitch limit. In dramatic fashion West struck out the final batter and Edison left three men on base.
