(1-15-23) The Lima area has lost one of its best high school sports writers…Tom Usher. Besides his coverage of numerous local high school sporting events over the past 30 years for the Lima News he also covered the Lima Locos since the formation of the team in the 1980’s.

Over the years Usher picked up many awards…he was named the Prep Sports Writer of the Year in 2008, and has won more than 30 Associated Press awards. He was the Ohio AP Sportswriter of the Year in 1996, runner-up as the AP Sportswriter of the Year in 2012 and in 2014 was named to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Hall of Fame.
A tweet by his colleague Jim Naveau posted today said that Usher, who was 68, had passed away this weekend. Usher was a Cincinnati native and graduated from St. Xavier HS and Xavier University. Before starting his career at the Lima News he worked at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
No funeral arrangements have been released, this posting will update that information when it is made available.
